Apple has bold plans for the iPad series, but these plans will only come to fruition in 2024. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the brand plans to launch a series of new iPad in 2024. As a result, we won’t see new iPad releases in the next nine to twelve months. So, 2023 will be a sad year for iPad enthusiasts, but they can at least rest assured that the next year will be much better. In addition to Apple’s first foldable product, a foldable iPad, the company also plans a new refresh for the iPad mini.

According to the analyst, Apple will launch a new iPad mini in 2024. The mass production for the new slate will begin in Q1 2024, and the launch may happen later that year. To recall, the analyst expected mass shipments of a refreshed iPad mini to start towards the end of 2023 or in H1 2024. With the new details, it seems that Kuo no longer believes in these old forecasts. We assume that something has changed in Cupertino, and this is not a surprise. Apple has been dealing with constraints in its manufacturing fronts for several reasons. So delays are not exactly a surprise.

Kuo also states that the major refresh is on the hardware part. The new iPad mini will bring a new CPU and that will be its main selling point. For that reason, we shouldn’t expect big upgrades in other aspects of the tablet. For comparison, the iPad mini from September 2021 packs the Apple A15 Bionic CPU. So we can expect the 2024 iPad mini to bring the Apple A16 Bionic, at the very least. Worth mentioning that the simpler iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will get the same CPU later this year.

The 2021 iPad Mini also features an 8.3-inch display, USB Type-C port, Touch ID power button, and 5G on the cellular version. We don’t expect big changes and these specs may remain in the newer model. However, a Korean leaker points to the adoption of ProMotion display tech in the global models. They will support up to 120 Hz of refresh rate. The Display Analyst Ross Young believes that Apple is working on an iPad mini 7. However, he states that the table is unlikely to have ProMotion tech.

We still have an entire year to go before the launch of a new iPad mini. So we’ll treat these rumors as rumors, and of course, they are subject to change. Interestingly, rumors have emerged in the last year pointing to the end of the iPad mini series. These rumors said that the upcoming foldable iPhone would serve as a replacement for the mini-series.
