How I use ChatGPT as a UI/UX Designer

Using ChatGPT Made Me A Better Designer

As a UI/UX designer, I have found that incorporating ChatGPT into my design process has greatly enhanced my ability to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.

By utilizing the natural language processing capabilities of ChatGPT, I am able to quickly generate copy and content for my designs, test and iterate on different interface options, and even generate new ideas and concepts for my projects.

In this article, I will share some of the ways in which I use ChatGPT to improve my UI/UX design process and how it can also benefit other designers in their work.

Some Ways I Use ChatGPT in My Daily UI/UX Work

When I first started using it, to be honest, I just got addicted to it. The way it explains complex things in a few words just blew my mind, and it is intelligent. I am a fan of being around smart people and things; therefore, I decided to add it to my day-to-day tasks and give it a try so that I can learn something from it.

So without any more talking, let’s talk about the ways I use ChatGPT:

1. CaseStudies and UX Briefs

When creating case studies, you can ask ChatGPT to give you a UX brief to work on, and it will provide the brief, you can then ask questions regarding it, and it’ll give you all the required data points and research and can also synthesize it for you. I use it for creating case studies for my portfolio and for my UX design practice. You can give it a try.

2. Content Generation (No More Lorem Ipsum)

Creating a design for practice that doesn’t have any content to place inside it? Instead of copying from another Google article or website, go to ChatGPT and ask for content; it will provide it.

You just ask how many words you want, and it’ll give the content around the number.

3. Getting Flows

When designing UI, if you forget any design flow, you can ask the ChatGPT for it, and it’ll provide it in vivid detail. It’ll just make your work effective and less frustrating. You can ask, “What’s the login flow for the app's UI?” and it’ll give you the answer, and if you want more data, just ask about it.

Explaining the Concept of ChatGPT Threads

Let me tell you about ChatGPT threads; this might be important for you to know. So, when you ask ChatGPT a question, it starts a thread, and every question you ask after that is inside that thread, which means all of them are connected, and you can ask questions, and in the next question, you can just ask a question related to it, and AI will understand that you’re talking about the previous question.

For example in the image below I started a thread by asking the question “What’s UX design” after the answer, I ask another question “can you explain it in detail” and ChatGPT provide me with a detailed answer understanding the “it” refers to the previous question.

asking the first question.

then asking ChatGPT to explain the previous question inside the thread.

4. Asking for Career Advice

I asked ChatGPT how I can grow in my UI/UX career, and it provided me with some skills to add to my portfolio to become a better designer. One of them is motion design, so I started working on it. The thumbnails of this article contain animation or motion design.

You can ask ChatGPT how you can grow in your career, how to ask for a salary raise, how to get more clients on Fiverr, etc.

5. Research Synthesizing

If you have your research written in a big, bulky text form and you want to summarize it, then ask ChatGPT to do it. It can provide a shorter version of it and can also extract the important points as bullet points.

6. Email Writing

If you're writing an email for a salary hike, to get an offer for work with a client, or to wish your boss’s daughter Happy Birthday, ask ChatGPT, and it’ll provide you with an easy-to-read, influencing email.

7. Generating Ideas for Articles

Now when I feel writer’s block about what to write for my next article, I use ChatGPT to give me a reference; it’ll provide me with tons of topics to work on, and I choose my favorites for writing.

Just Ask Questions, and Be Specific

ChatGPT is a revolution. It was like love at first sight for me. I recommend all the designers to use this amazing technology for your help, till AI becomes our ruler 😉
