I did the installation of the ROM and soon after I installed this package MindGapps and in the first boot the /root was with 1.10MB as shown in the image. This time I didn't need to delete an app from the ROM.

I tried flashing this ROM on to Mi 4 LTE CN edition (which I bought in 2015 to be able to flash Windows Phone, and used for years on WM10) and it sure did work.. I had to tweak the system partition since even pico version of GApps wouldn't flash due to small system partition. I shrunk the userdata partition and moved the cache and extended the system.

Now the LineageOS 18 boots perfectly and works for the most part. But the cellular radio is not working. It always says Network Disconnected. Anyone faced this issue, and know a fix?

answering my own problem statement.. I found that issue was only if I use OpenGApps. Then randomly I found that switching the "Preferred Network" from LTE to 3G actually kicks off network and it works even if I change it back to LTE.
