Having trouble while logging in after changing handle name!!

I was unable to log in with my handle and password....
I tried forget the password option but codeforces said that "no such handle"
Finally ,i tried to log in with email ...and it was successful.
Is it a bug? It is a error! ?
Anyone faced this before?
