OPPO has announced a new entry-level smartphone which the company is stating will redefine what an entry-level smartphone is. It brings a range of innovations previously reserved for flagship devices to its entry-level range: The OPPO A17.

The OPPO A17 inherits OPPO’s Ultra-Slim Retro Design with a flat-edged middle frame and smoothed edges, giving the phone its sleek, premium appearance.

OPPO Australia Managing Director, Michael Tran has stated that:
“The A17 might be a lightweight smartphone, but make no mistake, this device packs a punch, ” and “With the A17 we’ve prioritised features that Aussies value most, such as a quality camera system, long-lasting battery and sleek design, and brought them to market at a pocket-friendly price point. We’re confident the A17 will impress,”

The OPPO A17 comes with a 6.56-inch HD+ Eye Care LCD display (1612 x 720) powered by a MediaTek Helio G35 chipset, 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard memory which can be expanded to 1TB via microSD card. There are dual cameras set up made up of a 50MP main sensor wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor lens camera on the rear whilst the front facing is a 5MP camera.

The OPPO A17 will run OPPO’s ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12 and comes with new features such as:

  • Three-Finger Translate with Google Lens, which can quickly translate text in a screenshot into over 100 supported languages.
  • FlexDrop allows users to keep an additional app open in a small floating window, providing more effective multitasking when switching between apps.
  • Enhanced security features, such as Five-Grade Access Control and Photo Information Protection, to help keep sensitive information secure.

There is also Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Bluetooth version 5.3 and weirdly enough MicroUSB charging port which is a little perplexing to me given most if not all OPPO phones recently do have USB-C charging ports.

The OPPO A17 will be available in 2 colours, midnight black and lake blue and will be available to purchase from retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Big W, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Bing Lee for $259.

For those who pre-order and purchase the OPPO A17 before 12th February are eligible to receive a bonus gift from Konec, the Konec Essential SIM plan, which is valued at $25, and comes with 22GB of data for 30 days. Furthermore, anyone who does purchase the OPPO A17 as part of this deal will also get double the standard data allowance on this plan. This deal can only be redeemed via the OPPO website, with customers only having to submit their proof of purchase and the IMEI number of the device to redeem this offer.
