使用猎鹰重型火箭为美国太空军发射机密通信微星“CBAS-2” 仅仅三天之后，SpaceX又为太空军发射了一枚全新的GPS导航卫星。
北京时间2023年1月18日20点24分，在卡纳维拉尔角发射基地， 编号B1077.2的二手猎鹰9号火箭升空，将第6颗GPS-3卫星送入远地点高度为20200公里的椭圆轨道 ，并在海上完成回收。
接下来的一两周内，卫星将利用自己的发动机，进入进入55度倾角、20200公里高度的圆轨道。
第三代GPS导航卫星由洛克希德·马丁公司研制，最新的这一颗以美国航空先驱阿米莉亚·埃尔哈特(Amelia Earhart)命名， 加注燃料后重量4352公斤，设计寿命15年，而此前两代分别为7年、12年。
