The Upward Spiral Habit Tracker

Visualise your progress as you track habits in Notion

The Upward Spiral is a habit tracker Notion template with a difference. It doesn't just track how often you complete a habit, it shows you your compounding progress. You can mark habits as complete from an Apple Shortcut and visualise your progress in a chart.

@aplssf as someone who tracks my habits/goals in notion this looks super interesting! How do you think about people translating a habit into an exact %? E.g. if I meditate every day, that is a somewhat binary decision to me. I like the idea of compound habit interest - wonder if there could be some automatic translation e.g. if I meditate 10 days in a row, then each subsequent day == 1.2% or something like that increasing over time to help users get into habit/understanding the power of being consistent. Either way cool template and congrats on the launch!
@alexroe glad you like the idea! The % is definitely not going to be completely accurate in most cases. The most important thing is for the % to create an upward trend if you’re completing your habits and a downward trend if you’re not. The 12 days calculation would be tricky in Notion but it’s doable in Rows. The default negative % helps encourage consistency too though - otherwise your progress decreases…

Hi Product Hunt!

I created The Upward Spiral template as a reminder that the progress from completing your habits isn't linear, it compounds. If you get 1% fitter each week, by the end of the year you'll be 68% (not 52%) more fit. I wanted a tool that both let me visualise that compounding and the integrated chart (made with Rows), does that beautifully.

I also wanted a tracker which reflected the reality that if you stop making progress, you're not just standing still but in fact, each day you're taking a step backwards. Seeing that happening is an extra reminder to not let your progress slip away.

I find these two concepts incredibly motivational and I hope you will too!

Of course, opening Notion several times a day to record a progress score would be a little bit clunky so I also made an Apple Shortcut that lets you record completed habits from your lockscreen or homescreen as well :)

I hope this helps make you more motivated than ever to complete your habits in 2023!

@aplssf Adding this on top of Notion will be very useful. Thanks for building this and congratulations on the launch 🎉
Adding in the apple shortcut is genius - makes habit tracking actually sustainable. Excited to give this a go, congrats on the launch!
"... if you stop making progress, you're not just standing still but in fact, each day you're taking a step backwards..." This is a very important sentence. Congratulations on your idea @aplssf
