iPhone 15 Pro series to use a titanium frame, 8GB RAM and more

iPhone 15 Pro

Over the past few weeks, there have been reports regarding the iPhone 15 series. Although this series still have about 9 months before its official launch, the rumours keep rolling in. Some industry analysts said that Apple’s next-generation iPhone 15 Pro series is a significant upgrade compared to the iPhone 14 Pro series. The new report regarding the iPhone 15 series is that these new mobile phones will use a titanium alloy frame. Furthermore, the device will come with solid-state volume and power buttons with tactile feedback.

iPhone 15 Pro

In contrast, the iPhone 14 series launched by Apple last year uses borders of different materials. Among them, the standard version is made of an aviation-grade aluminium metal frame. As for the iPhone 14 Pro series, they come with surgical-grade stainless steel.

In addition, the memory of the iPhone 15 Pro series will upgrade to 8GB. This will be the first time that an iPhone will use up to 8GB of RAM. The iPhone 15 Pro series will also come with the new and powerful A17 Bionic SoC. At present, the entire iPhone 14 series has 6GB of RAM, while the previous generation iPhone 13 has 4GB of RAM. However, the iPhone 13 Pro series has 6GB of RAM.

It is however important to note that in order to comply with the new EU law, the new iPhone 15 series will have to ditch its traditional lightning charging interface. The company will now switch to the USB Type-C interface. Not just the iPhones but AirPods and other Apple hardware will follow.

Analyst Jeff Pu reports on the iPhone 15 Pro series

According to technology analyst, Jeff Pu, Apple’s next-generation iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have several new features. This includes the titanium alloy frames, solid buttons with tactile feedback, and higher memory capacity. In a research note written for Hong Kong investment firm, Haitong International Securities, Jeff Pu outlined his expectations for the iPhone 15 lineup. He claims that this lineup will include a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus. There will also be a 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. Some report claims that Apple will dump the Pro Max name and settle for the Ultra name just as it does for Apple Watch.

Notably, he expects the Pro model to feature titanium bezels and solid-state volume and power buttons, with tactile feedback provided by two additional Taptic engines. He also expects the Pro models to have 8GB of RAM, up from 6GB in the iPhone 14 Pro models. Pu said the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature the A17 Bionic chip manufactured by TSMC’s 3-nanometer process. However, he expects the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus to feature the A16 Bionic chip and 6GB of RAM. All four models will feature a USB Type-C port and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X70 modem for 5G and LTE, he said.

iPhone 15 Pro series will have a periscope sensor

Jeff Pu also expects the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s telephoto lens to feature periscope technology for improved optical zoom capabilities. As for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, Pu expects to have a 48MP rear camera lens like the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Gizchina News of the week

Based on “recent supply chain inspections and views on the technology industry,” Pu is cautious about the stock prices of many companies within Apple’s supply chain. According to Pu, Apple’s product momentum has “turned weaker,” and he expects shipments of iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches, and AirPods to decline year over year in 2023. Pu has a mixed record when it comes to predicting Apple’s future plans, but most of the information he shared about the iPhone 15 models was preceded by rumours. Apple is expected to release the new iPhone 15 series in September as usual.

iPhone 15 Android processor will squeeze toothpaste in 2023: 3nm is useless

In 2022, the Android camp will surpass the Apple processor for the first time in terms of performance. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC has achieved a decent performance which is not easy. Apple has been doubling down on its processor development over the years. Achieving high performance with good control is not easy. This is the reason why Apple does not always go for power in its chips. The three Apple chip generations from A14 to A16 have not upgraded the microkernel. All these chips also use the same 5nm process thus giving Android the same opportunity.

iPhone 15 series

However, in 2023, the comparison between Android and Apple will be different. Apple’s iPhone 15 series will have an A17 processor. Not only will the architecture be better, but Apple will also upgrade TSMC’s 3nm process. Among the brands on the Android side, whether Qualcomm or TSMC will follow up with the 3nm process in 2023 is still unknown. The 3nm process is quite expensive and whether the demand for Android phones will recover next year is another matter. Based on the previous revelations, in addition to Apple’s ability to use the 3nm process in 2023, brands such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, AMD, and NVIDIA are more likely to introduce the 3nm process in 2024. The most variable in the middle is Intel. The second-gen N3E process may be used in the second half of next year.

Apple may ditch the Pro Max name

The new iPhone series still has no less than nine months before its official launch. However, we already have a lot of speculations regarding this device. According to MacRumors, Apple will rename the top version of the iPhone 15 series. Following its regular naming pattern, this version should be the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, the new report claims that it will be an “iPhone 15 Ultra” just like Apple Watch Ultra. The report also reveals that the iPhone 15 Ultra will have two major factories for production. The factories are Luxshare Precision and Foxconn. Apple’s goal is to diversify its iPhone production partners.
