Hey guys I just got my new m2 air MacBook yesterday and it is my first time using a Mac. It is a fantastic experience and I am quite happy that I bought it. However, I closed my laptops' lid and leave it in sleep mode when it had possibly a battery of 50%ish. Once I woke up today I realized that my laptop has a battery of only 6%. I was wondering why is that ? Do you think twitter app in App Store might be the reason for that ? Because as soon as I turn my Mac on this morning I came across with an error that says my laptop has not enough memory and I must force quit some apps listed below.

The screenshot above (sorry, it is not English ! 😅) shows that my battery has been draining while my Mac was on sleep mode. How can I fix this problem. I would expect for my Mac to lose 1 to 2 percent of its battery throughout a night in sleep mode. Is my expectations just too much ?

Leave it plugged in at night. It's probably doing some indexing since it's new.

Looking at the bars that represents "Screen on usage"... Are you sure it's going to sleep? Maybe turn on Screen Time to see what apps are being used. I know there's another way but I can't think of it now. I'm sure someone here knows it.

macOS does a lot of tasks after it is first run. You are probably seeing the battery run down because those tasks ran while it was sleeping. Recharge the MacBook and do the same thing in a few days and the problem should be gone. If not, there are many posts here about troubleshooting battery issues.

Indexing I’m sure. Mine loses 0-1% overnight, great standby time

Last week one night I put mine away thinking I shut it down. The next day I realized it was sleeping. It only used 2%. I bet yours will be a lot better after you use it for a few days at least.

Hopefully it's just new mac indexing that they might allow to happen while in standby.

However, if the issue persists, you can get a bit of a readout of what's causing it by typing this into the Terminal

pmset -g log | grep -i "wake from"

If you end up finding a lot of Darkwake entries referring to perhaps wi-fi and bluetooth then there might be some connected device that is misbehaving, for example.

Probably indexing, but in any case you can also make sure that "Wake for network access" in battery>options is disabled for battery mode.
