苹果在2022年9月7日的“Far Out”活动上，正式发布了iPhone 14系列智能手机，包括了iPhone 14、iPhone 14 Plus、iPhone 14 Pro和iPhone 14 Pro Max四款机型。其中过往两代的5.4英寸mini机型被iPhone 14 Plus取代，新阵容由两款6.1英寸和两款6.7英寸机型组成。
不过曾被寄予厚望的iPhone 14 Plus表现不尽如人意，早早出现掉队的情况，使得苹果削减订单，甚至考虑提前停产。据DigiTimes报道，由于苹果担忧iPhone 14系列销量不如预期，正在考虑调整2023年发布的iPhone 15系列阵容。
苹果可能在iPhone 15系列中重新加入mini机型，新阵容将由iPhone 15 mini（5.4英寸）、iPhone 15（6.1英寸）、iPhone 15 Plus（6.7英寸）、iPhone 15 Pro（6.1英寸）和iPhone 15 Pro Max（6.7英寸）五款机型组成。有网友表示，过去mini机型销量一般，原因不在于屏幕大小，而是定价太高了，如果能拉开差价还是值得的。
苹果还会重新划分iPhone 15系列的功能和价格，让各个机型定位更加明确，差异化更明显。据称，所有iPhone 15系列都会配备灵动岛功能，不过暂时不清楚非Pro机型是否会有更高的屏幕刷新率，同时Pro机型还可能采用钛合金材质，与非Pro机型拉开差距，iPhone 15 Pro Max还会配备潜望式摄像头。价格方面，苹果打算拉开iPhone 15 Plus和iPhone 15 Pro之间的差价，前者可能会降低价格，后者则会提价。
