FAANG Companies

Why Designers are attracted to FAANG companies?

Designers continue to flock to FAANG Companies, but why?

FAANG stands for Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google, the five most successful and prominent technology companies in the world; namely, Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. Many of these companies have a reputation for innovation, excellence, and a positive workplace culture, which makes them attractive to employees.

As 2022 draws to a close, layoff news abounds throughout the tech sector. During these recessionary times, FAANG companies are also not secure. FAANG companies may need to adjust their workforce according to changing business conditions, just like any other company.

However, it may not necessarily be true that FAANG companies experience more layoffs than other companies. There are many reasons why a company might lay off employees, including restructuring, financial challenges, market changes, and shifts in strategy. Since FAANG companies are closely watched by investors and the public, their layoffs may attract more media attention when they occur. As a result, FAANG companies may appear to have more layoffs than other companies, even if this is not the case.

I am quite certain candidates will not miss out on applying to one of the FAANG companies if there is a new opening in the market. Why do candidates keep flocking to FAANG companies?

The pull to FAANG

Several reasons make these companies particularly attractive to job seekers, and among them are the following:

  1. For Designers: In many cases, FAANG companies are attractive to designers because they have solid design teams and a strong commitment to design as a core part of their business, which makes them a good choice for designers. It is also common for these companies to have large budgets for design, so designers can work on ambitious and challenging projects.
  2. High compensation: As a result of their competitive salaries and benefits packages, FAANG companies are known for offering competitive salaries.
  3. Career advancement opportunities: The career paths and advancement opportunities within these companies tend to be well-defined.
  4. Innovative work environment: An important characteristic of FAANG companies is that they foster a culture of innovation, which can be of particular appeal to employees who are looking to work on cutting-edge projects and technologies.
  5. Strong company culture: There is no denying that FAANG companies have a positive and supportive work culture, which is one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a company to work for.
  6. Prestige: For some job seekers, working for one of the FAANG companies can be regarded as a prestigious achievement, which can increase their chances of getting a job. It is well known that the brands of these companies are highly regarded, so working for one of them can be a prestigious opportunity and a very valuable addition to a designer’s portfolio.

Getting into FAANG

The process of getting hired by a FAANG company can be daunting for several reasons. It is common for these companies to receive a large number of job applications for their open positions since they are highly competitive companies. As a result, they can be selective in their hiring processes as well as afford to be selective about the candidates they hire as a result, they can be selective in their hiring process.

Aside from the high level of competition, several other factors may limit your chances of getting hired by a FAANG company:

  1. Job Requirements: FAANG companies often have high expectations for their employees and may require candidates to have a certain level of education or experience.
  2. Interview process: Interviews at FAANG companies are often very rigorous and may involve multiple rounds of interviews, problem-solving exercises, and other assessments. When candidates are not well prepared or do not perform well under pressure, this can be challenging.
  3. Job openings: Some companies may not have a large number of job openings at any given time, which may make it difficult for candidates to find a suitable position.
  4. Diverse hiring practices: There have been criticisms in the past that FAANG companies do not do enough to promote diversity and inclusivity in their hiring practices, making it difficult for underrepresented candidates to land jobs.

Pros & Cons of working in Startups vs FAANG

FAANG companies, on the other hand, can offer more stability and resources to designers. Traditionally, these companies have been successful, which provides employees with security. In addition to accessing cutting-edge technology and resources, designers in FAANG companies may be able to work on high-profile projects. There may, however, be a more structured and hierarchical work environment at a FAANG company, and designers may have less autonomy and flexibility.

It is ultimately up to an individual to decide whether to work in a startup or a FAANG company depending on their personal preferences and career goals. Designers should carefully consider which environment will provide them with the best opportunities and challenges since both types of companies present unique challenges.

That’s the end of this short yet hopefully insightful read. Thanks for making it to the end. I hope you gained something from it.
