12 月 21 日，埃隆·马斯克表示，会尽快找到一个足够 “愚蠢” 的人来接任 Twitter CEO 一职，找到后他便会辞职。马斯克称，辞任后他本人将只负责管理软件和服务团队。
12 月 19 日，马斯克在 Twitter 上就 “是否辞去 CEO” 一事发起投票，称将遵守投票结果。最终投票结果显示，超过 1700 万次投票中有 57.5% 投 “是”，反对票占比为 42.5%。
