Android users could soon find it easier to watch Apple TV+ shows and films. A reliable tipster says an Android version of the Apple TV application is in development.
It would be a win-win for both Android and Apple.
App would put Apple TV+ just a click away on Android
Apple doesn’t create many Android applications. There’s no version of Apple Maps or Apple Books or Podcasts for Samsung or similar devices. Generally speaking, consumers have to buy an Apple computer to get Apple apps.
But the company’s application for accessing streaming service is supposedly about become an exception.
“Apple TV app is coming to Android, currently are still internal beta testing. Will soon be released,” said the tipster who calls themself ShrimpApplePro.
The primary use of the application is to watch the Apple TV+ streaming service, as well as video content from iTunes. But the app can also access rival streaming services that the user has subscribed to.
A logical move
Despite how it might seem at first glance, it wouldn’t be out of character for Apple to bring its video streaming app to Android. There are already versions for Roku, Amazon Fire and other smart TVs. Plus, Microsoft revealed recently that a Windows version of Apple TV will debut in 2023.
The Mac-maker wants subscribers for Apple TV+, and isn’t limiting itself to only users of iPhone, iPad, etc. The more subscribers, the higher its revenue.
Android handsets and tablets can already access the streaming service via tv.apple.com. But a dedicated app would make the process easier.
