After recent problems in China, Apple is ramping up iPhone assembly in India. The number of iOS handsets assembled in that country will reportedly triple in the coming years.
Previous reports have also indicated that Apple is putting a much greater emphasis on making iPhones in India.
More iPhones will reportedly be assembled in India
Although iPhone components come from around the world, the actual assembly of the devices mostly happens in China. But COVID lockdowns this fall tremendously disrupted iPhone Pro assembly, and Apple is allegedly going to stop putting nearly all its eggs in one basket.
The primary result could be a tripling of iPhone assembly in India, according to a report by Mint. The number of iOS handset produced in the country could supposedly go up to between 12 million and 15 million units over the next two years.
Despite the widespread and mistaken belief that all iPhones are made in China, many are already assembled in India. The latest iPhone 14 is made in that country, for example. And production of AirPods and Beats headphones is also reportedly moving to India.
Other countries will benefit from the problem in China as well. Apple is also reportedly ramping up iPhone assembly in Vietnam.
