T7 Shield with MBA M2 format
May 14, 2010
Hope this is the right place to ask this. I just got a Samsung T7 Shield 1 TB to use as a backup drive for my MBA M2. Will I need to format it or is the format it comes with the correct one to use? Is there anything I need to do before using it? Thanks for any help.
Depends how you are backing up. TM will automatically format as APFS. For Carbon Copy Cloner and others you would use disk utility to format as HFS, although you could also use APFS.Will I need to format it or is the format it comes with the correct one to use?

I'm planning on using Time Machine, so that's good to know. Thanks!
Just make sure it is just one of your 3 backups in a 3-2-1 backup strategy as TM backups are more susceptible to failure.I'm planning on using Time Machine, so that's good to know.

Can you explain this strategy or link to an explanation? Thanks!Just make sure it is just one of your 3 backups in a 3-2-1 backup strategy as TM backups are more susceptible to failure.
You can search the forums for "3-2-1" or here's one article from the web. 3 backups, 2 local on different media types if possible, 1 remote:
