I need to use a Macbook Pro in target disk mode. It is the mid-2014, 15-inch model equipped with Thunderbolt 2 ports. The main machine to which I want to connect it is a 2019 iMac with USB-C ports. Now Apple says that if either of the computers has macOS 11 or more recent installed, then the connection must be done with a Thunderbolt cable.

I tried plain USB and it does not work, as expected. On the other hand, cables with male Thunderbolt 2 and USB-C connectors that I can find are unidirectional and serve only to send signal to a display. I there any solution to this problem?

Thanks!
