Mind-flayingly good

It's time to suit up and gather your dice because Larian Studios has announced Baldur's Gate 3 release date.

Showcased at The Game Awards 2022, we now know that Baldur's Gate 3 finally be in our grasp come August 2023, three years after its early access was released, so hopefully, we can expect some significant changes since then.

While we already know about Baldur's Gate 3, featuring all 12 D&D 5E classes and all the narrative plots, quests, and characters we'd like to see, the trailer also lets us into what we can expect from playing this incredible-looking D&D RPG game.

Baldur's Gate 3 seems to be a fantastic melting pot of D&D goodies wrapped together in a game that is pretty pleasing to look at. There's a tentacled Cthulhu-esque monster, elven cities, bustling ports, and ethereal music to tie it all together. What else is there to want?

It's gloomy and disgusting where it needs to be, (I'm looking at you, drawer of maggot parasites) but also jaw-droppingly stunning in the light of day. I can only imagine the sights you'll be able to discover.

But it seems like there won't be much time for sight-seeing, not with a mind-flayer tadpole in your brain. You'll have to find a solution and save the day while finding allies and fighting enemies; that's a piece of cake.

In simple terms, just try to get the guy who ripped his way out of a chest with fangs on your side; that seems like it would help.

But, wait a minute, that's not just any old adventurer, that's Minsc, the companion from the original Baldur's Gate, who came paired with a bet hamster called Boo.

Features writer

Elie is a Features Writer for TechRadar Gaming, here to write about anything new or slightly weird. Before writing for TRG, Elie studied for a Masters at Cardiff University JOMEC in International Journalism and Documentaries – spending her free time filming short docs or editing the gaming section for her student publications.

Elie’s first step into gaming was through Pokemon. The video games came later, but it was the trading card game that caught her eye and led to Elie owning an extensive playing card collection (She would tell you how many are PSA 10, but she doesn’t want to get robbed).

When it’s not Pokemon it's got to be horror. Any and every game that would keep you up at night is on her list to play. This is all despite the fact that one of Elie’s biggest fears is being chased – so horror games aren’t always the most enjoyable experience.

But really, anything weird and wonderful is right up her street. She loves to find new games and cool indie devs. Just make sure not to ask her anything about SCP if you want to get home for dinner.
