Pointz Alpha
Safer urban bike routes
Hey Product Hunters, it’s Maggie here 👋
I’m one of the co-founders of Pointz. Trisha and I have dedicated countless hours to our mission of making urban biking safer, and we’re so excited to share the alpha app with you today! We’re here to learn from you and hear your thoughts on how we can make Pointz even better :)
I first got the idea for Pointz during my cross-country bike trip from Virginia to California. One of the most challenging parts of the trip was navigating through cities. During the trip, I’d often figure out where to ride by asking local cyclists. After exploring this idea more, we found a way to use technology to share safer routes by leveraging existing datasets and crowdsourcing.
What’s different about Pointz: - View what type of bike infrastructure is available where you’re riding. Pointz pre-rates roads on a 1-5 bike friendliness scale based on sets of attributes from available datasets - Learn about road conditions like bike lane obstructions, ice on the road, dangerous intersections contributed by local riders on Pointz - Customize your route based on your tolerance for safety and hills
Pointz is free to use and is currently available on the App Store and Google Play Store (US only). Here is a list of the features we have now: - Safer, balanced, and faster routing - Road safety ratings - Crowdsourced feedback - Turn-by-turn navigation - Earn “pointz” and leaderboard
And a few that are coming soon: - Save and share routes - Shortcuts - Bike parking locations, bike shops, and bike repair stations
We’d love to have you check it out and send us feedback!
