GPTChat’s release: how to prepare for an AI-powered future

OpenAI just released GPTChat, a large language model optimized for conversation not more than 48 hours ago and it almost broke AI Twitter. Our feed was filled with most people trying the products out, jailbreaking them, or making memes out of them.

We’re beyond addicted and it’s only gonna get better. Few of our favorites:

Our first impression after playing with it for an unhealthy amount of hours is that it is probably the best chatbot in the world right now (or at least, one that is publicly available) and essays as evaluations are gonna be dead soon enough, lowkey excited with its implication in education system reform.

Oh, we also think that google needs to innovate because OpenAI is gonna be a serious contender when it comes to aggregating knowledge. Possibly other information aggregators to some extent need to look into the implications. On just 4 sentence prompt, we just had ChatGPT arrange a whole itinerary for our trip to Prague that fully catered to our interests.

Fun stuff aside, there was one question that we were discussing this past evening.

How do we prepare for this inevitable shift?

What skillsets do we need to double down on? Are our jobs at risk? What will the future of labor look like?

After hours of discussion, we have to admit that we don’t know. We were not even prepared for GPTchat to be dropped on us and with the upcoming GPT-4, who knows what upcoming advances this will bring?

Image of two circles. The tiny circle depicting GPT-3 has 175,000,000,000 parameters and the Giant circle depicting GPT-4 has supposedly capabilities of 100,000,000,000,000 parameters.

GPT-3 has 175 billion parameters, GPT-4 supposedly has 100 trillion parameters

Those that are not prepared might be swept by future technological advancement and economic forces.

We did however come to a few conclusions on how we might prepare for the inevitable.

Get into the frontline. Try out different products as entrepreneurs are going to innovate and integrate AI into their industry, and get a pulse on its limitations, future implications, and the velocity of AI advancement.

Let’s try our best not to be those that can only bring up the topic of Bitcoin energy usage when blockchain is involved or monkey jpegs whenever NFTs are brought up. Being open to new ideas and experiences to stay current and competitive has always proven to be a winning edge.

Embrace being generalists as having a broad range of experiences and knowledge can make you more valuable and versatile in the workplace. in David Epstein’s book Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World, the author deep dives into how being a generalist can give you an advantage over specialists in today’s rapidly changing world.

Communication, Interdisciplinary thinking, and collaboration can help us solve complex problems and innovate as further AI advancement introduces new ways of working.

As an individual, our ability to fully utilized critical thinking, ask clarifying questions and refrain from making any assumptions are going to be important if ChatGPT interfaces become the norm by:

  • Helping us better understand the information and responses provided
  • Evaluating the accuracy and relevance of the information provided
  • Clarifying any ambiguities or inconsistencies in the responses
  • Preventing us from jumping to conclusions or interpreting the information in a biased or inaccurate way
  • Making more informed decisions and avoiding potential misunderstandings or errors.

It’s not all a nightmare scenario

The recent release of OpenAI’s GPTChat has sparked discussion about the future of AI and its implications for the workforce — In an AI-centric world, having original and unique perspectives will continue to play an important role. AI technology is still limited in its ability to generate truly original ideas and solutions. While AI can process vast amounts of data and identify patterns and trends, it is still unable to think creatively or outside the box in the way that humans can.

Team who can bring unique perspectives and cross-pollinate ideas to the table will be in high demand. This can include teams with diverse backgrounds and experiences, as well as those with the ability to think creatively and innovate in new ways. Ultimately, it will be important to stay adaptable and open-minded as AI technology continues to advance.

I will make sure to keep you guys posted on the AI-guided Prague trip
