AWS and Accenture global tech leads weigh in on co-engineered project, Velocity

An earlier post on theCUBE accompanied the announcement of Velocity, a new service co-created by Amazon Web Services Inc. and Accenture PLC, and with the promise of expediting the optimization of business outcomes by up to 50%.

Insiders from both companies at the solution’s helm have come through with more information on their individual roles in the equation.

“With Velocity, it’s really about innovation,” said Erik Farr (pictured, right), head of solution architecture for the Accenture AWS Business Group at Amazon Web Services Inc. “It’s really about trying to speed the way that we help our customers, not just innovate through the AWS services, but with Accenture — with their ability to come in and bring their expertise in industries and in the technology underpinnings and all of the aspects of what we do together as a partnership.”

Farr and Chris Wegmann (pictured, left), technology and practice managing director of the Accenture AWS Business Group at Accenture PLC, spoke with theCUBE industry analyst John Walls at the AWS Executive Summit at re:Invent, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed the Velocity platform in detail with relevant use-case examples. (* Disclosure below.)

What it does, and who it’s for

It’s said that necessity is the mother of invention. The necessity, in this case, was born from the sheer amount of time and effort it took to get purpose-built services available for customers to build atop, according to Wegmann.

“We went through just a very simple checklist, predefined architectures, predefined solutions and that stuff, and we just cranked it out,” he explained. “And that’s what we’ve built.  It’s designed and it is helping us internally as well as our customers just go that much faster and get to that innovation.”

In a nutshell, the Velocity platform exists to be leveraged by organizations looking to innovate within the AWS ecosystem, according to Farr. Velocity takes AWS’ vast set of capabilities and combines them with Accenture’s implementation expertise so that enterprises can compress their cloud-driven transformations.

“This is designed not just to be something we use at the beginning of a cloud journey, but it’s to help customers continue through their journey as well,” Wegmann concluded.
