Oh, no.

I had the great honor of taking classes from Dr. Brooks at UNC, and his kindness helped me through a dark time.

Much bittersweetness tonight.

Sad to hear. Great interview. Such a different environment for computing back then. I can't imagine how people worked with punch cards. I get angry when my IDE slows down for 5 seconds...

The Mythical Man Month came up most often when we were trying to prove it wrong. We never did:)

Thank you so much! What a man! Wrote an almost bible for software project management ...

Enjoyed the interview, Grady.

:-( Just two days ago I praised his timeless insights. Everyone in IT should know Frederick P. Brooks. Sadly, many younger colleagues don’t. Mythical Man-Month is still a must-read. I also immensely liked The Design of Design. Thank you, Sir! RIP
Perusing my bookshelf this week, I revisited this. My wife asked, what are you reading? I said, "a classic."

Sad news.

I cannot tell you how many younger software engineers I worked with had never even heard of his masterpiece until I pointed them in its direction. Wisdom from nearly 50 years ago but still the same mistakes are made.

Thanks for sharing your interview of an amazing & humble genius & a trip down memory lane. Worked w/a guy in college who wrote a CL editor in APL. Found out on my last trip home that my dad delivered mail to Oppenheimer. Hope you dance a jig in his honor. 🙏🏼
So sorry to hear this. Thanks Fred Brooks for "The Mythical Man Month" and its many words of advice I still value.

RIP Fred Brooks an thanks for all the work and insights

My first real professional job was on a major banking software codebase on OS/360. That was a real culture shock after years of C++ and Visual Studio but it worked just fine and real fast.

RIP Fred Brooks. His book had a profound impact on me in terms of my career.
RIP. The man who wrote the famous book The Mythical Man-Month. Great contributions to software engineering.
Oh, no! Fred was a really great guy, as well as wicked smart! May his memory be a blessing to us all!
I remember in 2004 or 2005 Fred and his wife came to Cape Town and gave some talks and did some mentoring to us in the graphics/VR lab at UCT. Just a lovely man, will be sorely missed.
