Elon Musk has begun to restore Twitter accounts that had been in permanent suspension. Fulfilling his promise to ease up on platform control. Donald Trump could be the next.

Musk announced the restoration of the accounts of the controversial Canadian podcaster Jordan Peterson. And the right-wing parody website Babylon Bee. He added that the account of comedian Kathy Griffin will be back. It had been out of the platform earlier this month for pretending to be Elon Musk.

Elon Musk, who calls himself a “free speech absolutist,” has made it a point to restore accounts that have been suspended for breaking Twitter’s content moderation guidelines. Donald Trump’s account might be the following one to be back.

The billionaire’s decision to reinstate Trump, who was blocked for organizing a mob attack on the US Capitol last year in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election, has been closely watched by observers.

On Twitter, Elon Musk has started a poll asking his followers to express their opinion on whether or not former US President Donald Trump’s account should be back. According to the preliminary data, almost 55% of them chose “yes.” Although the survey is not yet complete, all indications point to a favorable outcome. Then Musk tweeted the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,”. Which roughly translates to “The voice of the people is the voice of God”.

Note that Musk does not plan to restore all accounts. Therefore not every account will be eligible for the same redemption. In fact, when a Twitter user urged Musk to “bring Alex Jones back,” Musk firmly replied, “No. In case you forgot, Jones is a far-right conspiracy theorist who denies Sandy Hook and was permanently banned from Twitter in 2018 for “abusive behavior.”
