Samsung Galaxy S23 to bring exclusive overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Samsung Galaxy S23

The Samsung Galaxy series has been split between Snapdragon and Exynos variants for quite some time. However, instead of giving options, the company adopted a drastic measure to push its Exynos variants forwards. It limited the Snapdragon units to China and the US. However, things changed with the Galaxy S22 series and the Exynos 2200. Samsung’s biggest bet, with AMD’s RDNA graphics, turned out to be a disaster, being much inferior to the Snapdragon 8 variants. That and some other factors, urged the company o bring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 units to Europe. Now, there won’t be Exynos variants, and the Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be all-Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be a special version of the SoC.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series will bring an exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 version

We don’t think Samsung is really happy about leaving the Exynos variants behind. After all, the company didn’t confirm this fact – Qualcomm did. During the reveal of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm confirmed that there will be no more Exynos in the Galaxy S23 family next year, not anywhere in the world. Today, tipster IceUniverse confirmed this fact. More than that, it confirms that Samsung will use an exclusive high-frequency version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. So, Samsung will be one step ahead of the competition using the standard variant. At least on paper.

Gizchina News of the week

Ice Universe published an alleged benchmark run’s results from Geekbench. It shows that the Galaxy S23 Ultra with model number SM-S918B. It achieves 1,504 single-core points and 4,580 in the multi-core department. The phone runs Android 13 OS which is not a surprise and probably will have a newer One UI 5.1 skin. Last but not least, the teaser confirms a variant with 8 GB of RAM. We still expect the highest variant with 12 GB of RAM.

Galaxy S23

The Cortex-X3 Kyro Prime Core runs at 3.36 GHz. That is a slight bump over the 3.2 GHz from the regular version of the SoC. The other cores still have their regular speed. For now, it’s unclear how the differences will stand in real-world usage. Anyway, the S23 series will certainly take the lead in some tasks.

We expect the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to appear on a lot of devices before the Samsung Galaxy S23 series reveal. There are plenty of phones coming with it in the coming months. However, once the Galaxy S23 series arrives it will have a slight advantage with this exclusive clock.
