India Might Require Apple and Others To Use USB-C Interface Only

USB-C

The world seems to be switching to the USB Type-C standard. What’s more interesting, Apple will not be able to avoid these changes and tell its rules. Today, we learned that India would require all smartphones, tablets, and notebooks to come with USB-C ports.

An Indian government representative said they met with various Indian regulators and private firms. They reached a broad consensus at the meeting on using USB-C interfaces in electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

iPhone 15

As a reminder, the EU has approved the bill to unify the USB-C interface. The latter will force Apple to adopt the USB-C standard on the iPhone and AirPods by the fall of 2024.

Starting in 2023, all new Apple products will follow the EU bill. Thus, the iPhone 15, AirPods 4, and other products will use a new standard for Apple.

iPhone 15 To Come With Faster Wired Transmission Speed Support

Today, a well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote that the wired transmission speed of the new high-end iPhone in 2H23 might be much faster than that of the existing models.

2H23新款高階iPhone的有線傳輸速度可能將顯著提升,有利高速傳輸IC設計產業成長,Apple的既有供應商 (如:譜瑞、祥碩、創惟、Renesas等) 可望為領先受益者。

All new iPhones will abandon the Lighting port and change to USB-C. However, the high-end iPhone 15 models (15 Pro and 15 Pro Max) will have fast wired transmission speed. At the same time, the two standard iPhone 15 models (the vanilla 15 and the 15 Plus) will still use the wired transfer speed similar to the Lightning (USB 2.0).

This is a familiar situation for Apple users. Although the iPad uses a USB-C port, there is a limitation on the speed. Before this, Verge’s test showed that the iPad 10 data transfer speed is limited to the 480 Mbps USB 2.0 can support. The latter doesn’t differ from the ninth-generation iPad with the Lightning interface.

Compared with the higher-end iPad Pro, the same USB-C interface can have a data transmission speed of up to 40Gbps. The latest iPad Air 4 and iPad mini version also support 5Gbps.
