  • Prediction Capital has launched its first fund to back early-stage fintech and consumer startups.
  • The $30 million fund, backed by Swiss family office Infinitas Capital, will focus on the DACH region.
  • The firm plans to invest in startups that support the UN's sustainable development goals.

A trio of investors based in Basel and Munich have launched a fund to back early-stage fintech and consumer startups that align with the UN's sustainable development goals.

Prediction Capital was set up by Christopher Chuffart, who has a background in fintech angel investments, Robin Lauber, founder of family office Infinitas Capital, and ex-McKinsey consultant Kilian Graulich. The Malta-based firm, which has reached the first close of its new $30 million early-stage fund, will focus on startups in the DACH region.

"We think there's a lot of synergy between the consumer and fintech spaces," Chuffart told Insider. "It is very interesting to combine the two."

Prediction Capital will also focus on startups that are mission-centered on the UN's sustainable development goals, from quality education and responsible consumption and production to climate action and gender equality.

Chuffart noted that the team is particularly interested in "B2B SaaS, open API" as well as startups with the potential to scale and be replicable.

Its focus is early-stage startups, across pre-seed to Series A, and initial ticket sizes will range from $250,000 to $500,000.

"We found in this geographical region, universities tend to write the first cheques, and there are growth investors in the later stage, but there's a gap in the middle," Chuffart added. "We're trying to fill that gap."

The DACH region is also home to a reputable suite of technical institutions, which the fund will make use of while scouting for founders.

Swiss family office Infinitas Capital, which has invested in the likes of ATAI Life Sciences and Olsam, is backing the fund, among a host of high net-worth individuals and previous portfolio founders, Chuffart said. The next close, which is expected to close in Q1 next year, will target sovereign funds.

With the help of the family office, Prediction Capital has been able to close four deals so far. The fund's strategy is to deploy capital within the next three years, with a plan to invest more frequently after the markets begin to recover.
