WebflowConf Review

A look at Webflow announments last week at WebflowConf

Well you can see full details at Webflow blog or here, I will jump directly into features:

Symbols are now Components

Clearly oriented to frameworks as React and PWAs (Progressive Web Apps). These integrations will be really good for big projects, so you can now do full atomic approach on your projects. Same as they have on other web builders (thy have this on Framer as example).

DevLink

So stop thinking about doing landing pages or small sites and get bigger. Workflows are going to change for big projects. We could have a company where Design team makes a Design System, then it is taken by Webflow Designers/Developers to create components and integrate them with React or other similar frameworks. CMS Scaling

This is going beyond 10,000 items, everything depends on what plan do you /your client has. I think surely they could overtake other CMS limitations such as Collections number on a page, number of items shown, number o nested collections, but this will go against performance so don´t see really interest on it (you can use Jetboost or Finsweet for that)

Native multi-language support to come in 2023

The boys from Linguana, Weglot or Polyflow won´t be happy about this. Anyway, there´s market for all, same as happens with Memberships where we have others such as Wized, Memberstack, Outseta, etc.

Lot of people wanted this, number two in the Webflow Wishlist. I wonder if this feature will have its cost as they made with other features. I have read about Chinese sites issues dealing with the big Firewall, I hope they can jump it. For me for example, I made a bilingual site both in English and arabic and aside from thinking right to left, it was a good experience

Ecommerce plans, Memberships, Logic

There are new Product limits on eCommerce plans. Memberships now in open beta — with increased limits. And Logic Beta.

I think there still no massive adaptation to these two features, Memberships and Logic (as they are in Beta), but they are here to stay. So sure we will see more about them next year.

Variable Fonts

Well, this is something you can make with Code. Looks more for WOW effect, but I´m ok with it

Agency or Freelancer Guest roles

Coming later this month. So you control who can access different sites in your Workspace. You see it on every page settings.

Page Branching

Design in parallel with page branching. I would say Branching is a visual Github. This solves some problems for example when you need to developers working at the same time on the same project (Hand over control!)

Webflow Marketplace

1*4i9Z8j2vFc_5-BZyE4eNKA.png

We have five sections at Webflow Marketplace:
- Libraries
- Apps
- Experts with Matching feature (they should make a Tinder for this)
- Templates
- Made in Webflow which was already updated months ago

Aside from this we will have new Creator Profiles.

I think more and more developers are to come to Webflow, and we will have new profiles, such as ‘Webflow App Developer’. The Marketplace seems to me similar to what they have at Shopify

Webflow Developers

There´s a new Webflow Developers site with new documentation. So you can find here documentation, API info, Changelog, resources such as Tools, Forum and Support

In general we could say WebflowConf had better news for Developers than for Designers (if there´s a difference in NoCode landscape)

Webflow Awards

A quick view at winners and nominated.

Community Awards

  • Community Creator of the year: This was for Finsweet. Lots of tools from them. Was on my favorites together with Relume.
  • Community MVP for Colleen Brady. Hard work! I´ve been following all events from her timeline. I had also bet for Raymmar Tirado and Mason Poe.
  • Rising Star: Josh Loh from Relume. Much respect!
  • Community Educator of the Year: Timothy Ricks. I am really one of his fans. I don´t like he uses .em but like very much his experiments with JS libraries
  • Community Leader of the Year: Melissa Mendez. Great! I met her one month ago here in Madrid, Spain and we had some beers. FlowParty is a nice community!

A Webflow Developer comes into a bar and finds Melissa Mendez

  • Cloneable — Visual Aesthetic: Ticketed (Tyler Hughey). I strongly recommend seeing his cloneables, really inspiring.
  • Cloneable — Technical Achievement: Refokus. Maybe they won because we still don´t have advanced features for Rich Text at Webflow (underline a text? different image aspect ratio for desktop/mobile?) Just joking ;D

Partner Awards

Customer Awards

Not sure but surely I should have proposed more works, there are a lot at Awwwards and Godly.

And yes! I like Pineapple Pizza :D
