What it does, it does better than anything else.

As for existing Apple TV 4K owners, unless you’ve got a Samsung 4K TV in your living room and have been waiting with bated breath for HDR10 Plus, there’s no compelling reason to upgrade from a prior model to this one. You’re unlikely to perceive any of the speed improvements, and Thread / Matter is only just getting off the ground, so there’s plenty of time to wait for whatever Apple’s got next in the Apple TV pipeline.

Despite a drop in price and a boost in performance, the third-generation Apple TV 4K is still an expensive media streamer that's best suited for Apple-centric households.

Improved over last year’s model, and more-affordable than ever, the Apple TV 4K (2022) is more compelling than before. The fastest streaming device (at least for most apps), the Apple TV 4K offers the best home screen in the industry. And while the new-look Siri offers some help, it goes a little too-big.

Is the Apple TV 4K (2022) the set-top box you should buy above all others? If you are an Apple user and Apple service subscriber then absolutely, it offers a great performance and experience with plenty on offer. If you just want a set-top box or stick to access streaming services, there are plenty of options that are much cheaper.

The 2022 Apple TV 4K is a small year-on-year upgrade that nonetheless manages to make the fruity set-top box that little bit more appealing - largely thanks to a cheaper price. You'll still pay more for a new Apple TV 4K than most other streaming devices, but it's novel to see a manufacturer cut prices in a year where everything else has been getting more expensive.

The Apple TV 4K is definitely worth it for those who'll enjoy more of those features that go beyond everyday streaming, like smart home control and immersive home theater. And it increases image quality to a noticeable extent, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an upgrade over their current streaming device's video.

Was the Apple TV 4K crying out for a hardware refresh? Definitely not. The outgoing version is an excellent performer that will continue to satisfy the needs of many customers for a long time yet. But the 2022 model adds some great hardware improvements that, along with the price cut, make it a no-brainer for anyone looking to get their first Apple TV or upgrade an aging Apple TV HD model.

For $129, the new Apple TV 4K is a hard sell compared to its rivals. But if its price falls by $30 to $50? Well, Apple could have a compelling TV product once again.

By CNN on November 02, 2022

Apple’s newest Apple TV 4K is an impressive upgrade for those who have an older Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD thanks to increased performance and a new, lower price tag. It's the new high-end streamer to beat, but owners of last year's Apple TV 4K model can skip for now.

If you plan on building a smart home around HomeKit, or you already have a bunch of HomeKit-enabled gadgets, you really want to spend the extra $20 on the higher-capacity model. It's the only model that has an Ethernet and supports Thread, a low-power mesh networking standard that allows many smart devices — including HomeKit devices — to communicate better and more efficiently with each other.
