If the cryptocurrency industry is to go mainstream, it must gain traction in countries with affordable internet access. Interestingly, there are some surprising regions where the internet is considered the most affordable. Israel tops the chart for affordability, yet its internet adoption appears to decrease.

Israel Has The Most Affordable Internet In 2022

It seems like a pipe dream to expect internet connectivity to be affordable globally. In the 2022 research by SurfShark, the team looked at both mobile and broadband internet connectivity. Intriguingly, Israel tops the list in affordability, noting a substantial increase over 2021. It takes 5 seconds of work to access the cheapest mobile internet connection in the country.

For broadband connectivity, Israel still provides a rather affordable internet. With 19 minutes of work at an average-paying job, anyone can access the cheapest broadband internet. Keep in mind these are the lowest tiers of internet connectivity:

  • Mobile: up to 52.79 Mbps (although the cheapest tier is likely 1/10th of that speed or less)
  • Broadband: up to 170.64 Mbps (although the cheapest tier is likely 1/5th of that speed at best)

While Israel made notable gains in mobile speed, mobile internet stability, and broadband speed, other aspects have gone backward. A steep decline in broadband internet stability, mobile speed improvement, and broadband speed improvement could be much better. Continually upgrading infrastructure is expensive but also necessary.

Even though Israel has the most affordable internet, the country has lost ground in electronic infrastructure. More specifically, 79.67 per 100 inhabitants have internet access. That is a small decline over 2021, even though everything has become more affordable. Currently, Israel ranks 55th globally for internet users per 100 inhabitants. A surprising trend that doesn’t seem to improve lately.

No Lack Of ISPs

There are several internet service providers in Israel with varying speeds and prices. Notable companies include 099 Primo Communications, Starlink, Xphone Cable Internet, VSAT Satellite Broadband, Businesscomm, iDirect, B Comm, etc. Moreover, there are five packages with speeds of 100 Mbit/second or more (download) and up to 100 mbit/second upload.

There are some apparent discrepancies further down the ranks. Only 2 ISPS offer speeds between 5 mbit/s and 40 mbit/s. Everyone else is slower, with most connections posting dial-up speeds. Even Hot Mobile’s 4G internet doesn’t go above 512 kbit/s download and 128 kbit/s upload.

The slowest speeds are achieved via internet connections over Iridium phone (9 kbit/s) and Inmarsat Isatphone (2 kbit/s). Those plans cost $0.85 and $0.86, making them part of Israel’s push for affordable internet. However, if speeds are only usable for little, such plans won’t be of too much interest.

Price-wise, Israel rightfully claims the affordable internet title. Some packages cost up to $165 per month, but outside of the top 10, prices drop below $40 per month pretty quickly. Starlink is the sixth-most expensive package in Israel at $99 per month. However, it is the best bang for the buck, as the more expensive plans do not offer over 2 Mbit/s download speeds. Better infrastructure for higher speeds is needed, though.
