iPad 10 and M2 iPad Pro go on sale

Apple’s latest iPad Pro lineup and the new iPad 10 are now on sale in the United States and 27 other key markets. The company announced the new iPads via press releases last week.

The launch of the new iPads comes hot on the heels of Monday’s iPadOS 16.1 release.

2022 iPad Pro is all about the M2 chip

Apple’s M2 iPad Pro lineup offers a minor spec bump over the 2021 models. Contrary to rumors, the new iPad Pros do not support MagSafe-based wireless charging. Their exterior design remains the same, barring the addition of the “iPad Pro” moniker on the tablet’s back.

Internally, Apple made only two notable changes: the switch to a faster M2 chip and the addition of Wi-Fi 6E support. This makes the new iPad Pros the first Apple devices to support the latest Wi-Fi standard. Unless you are pushing your M1 iPad Pro to the limit, though, there’s little reason to upgrade to the newer model.

In the United States, the new iPad Pro lineup carries the same price tag as the M1 models. But in Europe and other regions, the tablets received a steep increase in price, making them substantially more expensive.

iPad 10 is more expensive than the iPad 9

Prior to last week’s unveiling, rumors indicated the new iPad 10 would replace the 9th-generation iPad. But that did not turn out to be true. Apple continues to sell the iPad 9 for $329, while the redesigned iPad 10 costs $449. The 2022 model features a new iPad Air-like design, a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display, an A14 Bionic chip and a USB-C port for charging and data purposes. The new tablet is similar to the iPad Air (2020) but slots in at a lower price.

Unlike the iPhone 14 series, demand for the new iPads is unlikely to outstrip supply. So, if you preordered a new iPad Pro or iPad 10, you should get it later today. If not, you can always head over to your nearest Apple Store later today to pick one up.

Apple also announced a faster new Apple TV 4K on October 18, but the upgraded set-top box doesn’t go on sale until November 4 in 30-plus countries.
