AnsibleFest was all about enabling organizations to automate IT at scale

All of today’s popular software gained its vitalness by solving one or more crucial problems, and continuously evolving that solution.

As we trudge into the operations-as-code era, Ansible might have the key to solving the organizational problem of scaling automation.

“You’re seeing new things like sign-in code, making sure it’s trusted and verified,” said John Furrier (pictured, right), analyst at theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. “So that’s the software supply chain issue. So they’re getting into the world where software, open source and automation are all happening at scale. That’s a huge concept of ops as code, It’s going to be a very relevant kind of next-gen positioning.”

In their wrap-up analysis from this week’s AnsibleFest event, Furrier and co-host Lisa Martin discussed the big takeaways from the event that featured large-scale information technology automation advancements for the enterprise. (* Disclosure below.)

Broadening the partner ecosystem

Ansible has always been a collective brainchild drawing from its rich community of developers. But, as it charges forward, it’s seeing the benefits of building out a veritable partner ecosystem, including the likes of Amazon Web Services Inc. and Microsoft Azure.

“The fact that Ansible’s in the [AWS] Marketplace means that their sales are going to go up, No. 1,” Furrier said. “No. 2, that means customers can consume it simply by clicking a button on their Amazon bill.”

In order for Ansible to drive these capabilities wider, it’s become available on the major cloud marketplaces and is meeting its customers in the separate clouds they simultaneously use, according to Furrier.

“They give them the choice to consume the product on clouds that they like,” he explained. “So we’re seeing a lot of clients that have standardized on AWS with their dev teams but also have productivity software on Azure. I think Ansible fits this shim layer between clouds but also a bolt-on. Now that’s really a double win for them.”
