After Google announced that the service was shutting down, developers have had to scramble to let people transfer their purchases and save data.

If you played The Elder Scrolls Online using Google’s now-doomed Stadia cloud gaming service, I have some good news. Bethesda is making good on its promise to let people port their ESO accounts over to Windows and Mac, including all their progress, characters, purchased content, achievements, and inventory items.

According to several members of the Stadia subreddit, the company has been sending out emails to players with instructions on how to get the game up and running on their computers, which basically just involves logging into the Elder Scrolls Online site and downloading the game. The company has also posted the information on its website. The one downside is that you won’t be able to transfer your account to the PlayStation or Xbox versions of the game, according to Android Central.

Still, for people like my colleague Makena Kelly, who fell in love with ESO right before Google announced it was shutting down Stadia, it’s nice to hear that the transfer process is under way, provided, of course, that you have a computer to play the game on. That’s especially true given that developers have mostly had to figure out what to do on the fly; Google’s announcement came as a surprise to them too.

Bethesda isn’t the only company trying to help get Stadia users out of the mess Google left them in. Ubisoft has said it’ll let you transfer your purchases from the platform to PC. You’ll also be able to rescue your Cyberpunk 2077 save file from Stadia, provided you do so before it shuts down on January 18th.

Instacart’s IPO apparently isn’t happening this year, either.

In recent years Instacart has pulled in a lot of talent from tech companies like Meta — including CEO Fidji Simo last year — as it was seemingly close to going public.

But tonight, the NYT reports that after cutting its internal valuation from $40 billion to $24 billion in March, it’s now shelving plans to go public in 2022. Maybe 2023 will be the year?

Mario Party 1 and 2 are coming to Switch just in time for Thanksgiving.

Just make sure you don’t get a blister playing the tug of war minigame. They’ll be available for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers on November 2nd. More N64 games will be added in the future, including, at some point, GoldenEye 007.

Resident Evil 4’s opening village level looks terrifying in the new remake.

The chainsaw man is back, but at least you can parry his weapon with a... knife? I’m not sure how that works, but I’ll take any defense I can get when the game releases on March 23rd. You can watch a gameplay trailer at 43:46 in Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase, which also featured the upcoming Resident Evil Village DLC.

Snapchat is still growing but it has a Stories problem.

Snap just reported its earnings for the third quarter and the numbers are mostly in line with what Wall Street was expecting. Daily users reached 363 million, a 19 percent increase that is much better than growth rates for Facebook and Twitter. Revenue only grew 6 percent to $1.13 billion and Snap remains unprofitable.

Snap invented the Stories format but now it’s saying that users are engaging less with their friends’ Stories, which is a problem for its business since ads are placed between Stories. The company laid off 20 percent of its employees recently in an attempt to cut costs and get to profitability faster.

You don’t have to play guessing games about the status of your iPhone’s battery.

iOS 16 now lets you monitor the status of your battery, either in the status bar or via a lock screen widget. Of course, that means the next time you suddenly realize you’re totally out of power, you’ll have nobody to blame but yourself...

Taylor Swift album releases are a pretty big deal for Metacritic.

When she released “Folklore,” “traffic swelled by ‘roughly a half million page views,’” one of Metacritic’s founders told The New York Times. Swift’s newest album, “Midnights,” launches tomorrow, and I have to imagine it will mean another big day for Metacritic.

Ubisoft seems interested in Netflix’s cloud gaming platform.

“Ubisoft is always looking into finding new platforms and opportunities for our players to play our games and engage in our content,” spokesperson Jessica Roache in a statement sent to The Verge on Thursday. The studio has been a big supporter of cloud gaming platforms like Stadia and Luna, and it’s already working with Netflix on mobile games and an Assassin’s Creed series.

One airport in LA has become flooded with private jet flights thanks to an FAA loophole.

If you follow ElonJet or are a big Kardashian fan you’re probably aware of Van Nuys Airport, which handles a lot of private plane flights. But, according to the LA Times, thanks to Covid-19 and some interesting interpretations of FAA rules Van Nuys has quickly transformed into a commercial airport for some of the wealthiest people in the world, and it's covering the neighborhood in fumes.

Amazon’s new spatial audio processing tech for the Echo Studio is rolling out now.

The company announced last month that the update was on the way. If you’re looking to pick up one of the high-end speakers, it now comes in white, too.

Did someone say macOS on a Steam Deck?

A Reddit user has managed to get macOS running on a Steam Deck. Using a combination of SteamOS VirtualBox virtualization software, macOS Catalina is up and running on the 7-inch display with performance said to be “normal.” But the animations are laggy according to the Reddit poster, and booting macOS takes minutes. That’s probably down to no hardware acceleration, but hey it’s fun to experiment!

Google got caught tweeting from an iPhone while promoting Pixel.

Google quickly deleted the tweet, which was a reply to Apple CEO Tim Cook, and reposted it from the web (via 9to5Mac). The “Twitter for iPhone” label strikes again.

Now Facebook Groups have Reels too, and some new admin features.

Facebook’s community feature is getting Reels — the pivot to video never sleeps — letting people create and post Meta’s version of TikToks straight to a Group. It’s also testing new admin features that are supposed to help keep members engaged with the group (and, of course, with Facebook).

This setting doesn’t fix the green bubble problem, but it does make text messages on iPhone easier to read.

Turns out there’s a setting to increase contrast in the iPhone’s messages app. It changes green bubbles from a bright neon green to a much calmer forest green. It’s nice!

Arrival announces its own Brexit.

The cash-strapped EV startup just announced it would be winding down its UK operations in favor refocusing its business in the US. The main reason is the Inflation Reduction Act’s tax credit rules requiring EVs to be made in the US. It’s unclear how far the company will go with only $330 million of cash on hand and its stock price in the gutter. Better get cracking!

AMD sets a date for its next-gen GPUs.

It’s nearly time to see what AMD has been cooking up for its RDNA 3 GPUs. AMD will hold a livestream for its next-gen GPUs on November 3rd at 4PM ET. These GPUs will be designed for gamers and creators, but they’ll also need to compete with Nvidia’s RTX 4090 4K beast. AMD might need an answer to DLSS 3, too. Game on.

The 1.0 release adds a bunch of features, including an Endless modes, a new weapon, and a Twitch integration to let your viewers decide your fate. You can buy the game now for $5 on Steam, and seriously, you should.

Here’s what a Pixel Watch without bezels looks like.

Courtesy of Google’s blog post announcing its new Messages features today, we’ve gotten a look at what a Pixel Watch could be if it didn’t have that giant bezel on it.

Sadly, Google’s since removed the image, but it’s clear that someone there wishes the Pixel Watch had a bigger screen instead of its racetrack bezel.

Google is getting sued again.

Remember when Google had to pay a couple hundred bucks to all the Photos users in Illinois because it didn’t get their consent to build facial recognition into the service?

Well, now the same lawsuit is getting filed in Texas, so you can get ready for that. Some day we’ll have a federal privacy law and won’t have to do these things state-by-state, but until then, Google is paying for a lot of lawyers’ summer homes.

Leica’s new-old M6 35mm film camera is $5,300.

We might have hit peak film camera hype: Leica is reissuing its M6 film camera from 1984 and selling it for $5,295, in this, the two thousand and twenty second year of our digital photography.

The only thing that costs more might be the film you have to put in this — have you seen the prices of Kodak film lately?
