Hi all I changed harddisk on my Mac Book Pro A1708 and when it turns on it boots in the Mac OS Utility when i press command R when nothing is pressed I get folder with questioinmark. I tried to renstall Mac OS option and always get the installation information on the recovery server is damaged (Date is correct). I tried all Options of recovery. I tried to create bootable USB but does not show when i use option + power on. I tried 4 different Mac os different versions. It seems that it has an installation disk of MAc Os Sirra and is stuck with it. Can some one help me please

I suggest you try booting to INTERNET recovery (this is not the same as "the recovery partition").

In each case, power off first.

Command-OPTION-R
at boot
This will install the most recent version of the OS the MBP 2017 will run. Current version is OS 12 "Monterey".

Command-SHIFT-OPTION-R
at boot
This will install OS 10.12 "Sierra".

Decide which one you want, then begin the boot process by using the appropriate key combination.

If you're connecting via wifi, you'll need your wifi password.
It takes a while for the internet utilities to load, so BE PATIENT while the globe spins.

When the utilities are loaded, open disk utility.

VERY IMPORTANT:
Check to see if there is a "view" menu.
If there IS, go to it and choose "show all devices".

Now look at the list "on the left".
The topmost item represents the physical SSD inside.
We need to erase it before going further.

If you're going to install Sierra, choose
"Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format".

If you're going to install Monterey, choose
"APFS, GUID partition format".

Once the erase is done, quit disk utility and open the OS installer.

Start "clicking through".
The Mac will reboot one or more times, and the screen will go dark for a minute or more at a time, with no other indication of activity.
Just be patient and wait it out.

When done, you should see the initial setup screen "choose your language".
Start clicking through.
If you have a backup, have it ready for when setup assistant asks if you wish to migrate from another drive.

Connect the backup drive and let setup assistant "digest" everything.
SA will present a list with stuff that can be migrated.
I would suggest you migrate all of it.
Turn SA loose and give it time to complete the migration.

When done, you should see your original login screen.

Hi Fishrrman thanks for you reply, I tried all the steps you listed but the same when I press Command-SHIFT-OPTION-R i get option to set language but when i set language i get macOS Utilites, i have no option APFS when i format drive, i don't have view menu.When i try Coomand-Option-R i get apple.com/support 5101f

PS: in installer log i get

macos utilities userspacescalefactor in class NSWindow is deprecated on 10.7 and later

Take cell phone pics of what you're seeing and post them here for "each step of the way".

You want to SEE "Mac OS utilities" when booting to internet recovery.

Then, you want to open disk utility from the utilities menu.

Then, you want to erase the drive.

When you boot to Command-Shift-Option-R, it's going to install El Capitan, so you may not see a "view" menu. That might appear only with Command-Shift-R (which installs Monterey).

Then, erase the drive to "Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format".

Then, open the OS installer and try installing.

If Internet Recovery takes you to a Sierra system (and would install Sierra), then you should definitely choose to format the internal drive as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", you won't see any choice to format as APFS in Sierra (Sierra is too old for the APFS format
In Disk Utility, make sure that you choose the internal drive (that line will have the drive model information), so the entire drive will be prepared properly. The drive will be automatically converted to APFS when you upgrade to a later system.
