$6.99 Netflix basic with ads starts November in Australia
Netflix has announced that Australians will be able to signup for a new low cost $6.99/month “Basic with Ads“ plan from November 4th 2022.
“Basic with Ads” will be available in 12 countries initially: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US. Netflix says as they learn from and improve the experience, they expect to launch the new plan in more countries over time.
Basic with Ads complements the existing ad-free Basic 720p ($10.99), Standard HD ($16.99) and Premium 4K ($22.99) plans.
Basic with Ads is the same as the existing Netflix Basic 720p video quality plan, with a few differences:
- What’s different: average of 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour; a limited number of movies and TV shows won’t be available due to licensing restrictions (which Netflix is working on) and no ability to download to watch offline.
- Ad format: At launch, ads will be 15 or 30 seconds in length and will play before and during shows and movies.
- Advertiser controls: broad targeting will be done by country and genre (e.g. action, drama, romance, sci-fi). Advertisers will also be able to prevent their ads from appearing on content that might be inconsistent with their brand (e.g. sex, nudity or graphic violence).
