Apple Music Now Available on Xbox

Wednesday October 12, 2022 5:24 am PDT by Joe Rossignol

Apple Music is now available on the Microsoft Store for the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One, providing subscribers with access to the streaming music service, complete with large album art, full-screen time-synced lyrics, and more. As noted by users on Reddit, music can be played in the background while gaming.

Apple Music Xbox App
The app is similar to the one available on tvOS for the Apple TV, with a top navigation bar for Listen Now, Browse, Videos, Radio, Library, and Now Playing. Apple Music launched on the PlayStation 5 last year and is also available on select Samsung and LG smart TVs, Roku, Android, Amazon Echo, Sonos, Google Nest, and Windows via iTunes.

Apple Music recently surpassed 100 million songs available, but Apple has not revealed how many subscribers the service has in several years now. Apple Music's largest rival Spotify was already available on Xbox, along with Amazon Music, Deezer, and others.

The Verge's Tom Warren shared a brief preview of the Apple Music app for Xbox:

Yet there is still no Windows app…

Edit: Although, to be fair, the Windows app needs to be able to handle much more than the just the stream apps they’ve been making (such as local music libraries, the iTunes Store, syncing devices, etc.)
Official policy at Apple and especially Google is that Windows does not exist.

At this point there isn't gonna be a Windows app. The death of iTunes is a selling point for macOS that is getting PC users who own iPhones to switch to the Apple Silicon Macs. "Hate iTunes and want easier file transfer with your iPhone? Come to Mac then"

It got my dad who used to be a hardcore Mac hater since the 80s to switch to an M1 Mac Mini because he wanted iTunes gone that badly. Plus he loves Apple TV so having a dedicated app makes him happy.
They have just announced that new desktop music and photos apps will also be coming to Windows on the desktop next year. A rebuilt Apple Music app, and a new truly integrated iCloud Photos experience which will tie into the existing Windows photo manager app 'Photos'.

At last...

Windows when?

If they can get it running on Xbox then they can put out an app for Windows through MS Store for 10/11. It's basically the same OS.

I would immediately cancel my YouTube Music sub and Apple would get my money. I'll keep waiting...
