Apple released iOS 16.0.3 and watchOS 9.0.2 on Monday to remove a range of small bugs. Many of these affect the new iPhone 14 series and Apple Watch models.

Both updates are recommended for those with Apple’s latest handsets and wearables, as well as who’ve already installed iOS 16 and watchOS 9.

iOS 16.0.3 and watchOS 9.0.2 are “bug fix’ updates

iPhone and Apple Watch users got access to iOS 16 and watchOS 9 exactly four weeks ago. Unfortunately, Apple has since been forced to rush out multiple patches to deal with problem code. The latest of these launched Monday.

The release notes for iOS 16.0.3 state that:

This update provides bug fixes and important security updates for your iPhone including the following:

  • Incoming call and app notifications may be delayed or not delivered on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • Low microphone volume can occur during CarPlay phone calls on iPhone 14 models
  • Camera may be slow to launch or switch between modes on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • Mail crashes on launch after receiving a malformed email

And Apple’s release notes for watchOS 9.0.2 state that:

This update includes improvements and bug fixes for your Apple Watch.

  • Interruptions to streaming audio on Spotify
  • Snooze alarm notifications continue after the alarm is deleted for AssistiveTouch users
  • Incomplete syncing of Wallet and Fitness data for newly paired Apple Watch
  • Audio from microphone interrupted for some Apple Watch Series 8 and Ultra users

Update iPhone or Apple Watch today

iPhone users can install iOS 16.0.3 by connecting the device to a Mac, or to a PC running iTunes. Alternatively, an over-the-air update is also possible. That’s accomplished by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update.

The watchOS 9.0.2 update can be installed directly onto and Apple Watch, as long as the wearable is connected to Wi-Fi. From the Settings app just navigate to General > Software Update. Alternatively, it can be installed from an iPhone by opening the Apple Watch app and going to My Watch > General > Software Update.
