虽然尚未有航天员登上火星，可是各种探测器的足迹早已抵达，时间超过50年。
统计显示，在14次独立任务中，各国已经向火星发送了18个人造航天器，有些仍在火星表面探索，这些航天器也在火星留下了自己的印记。
来自美国西弗吉尼亚大学的博士后研究员Cagri Kilic在最新论文中计算得出，人类（航天器）已经在火星留下了超过7吨的垃圾。
实际上，今年8月中旬，NASA的毅力号就发现了一块被丢弃的垃圾，一团纠结在一起的网状物。据悉，火星上的碎片主要有三大来源，分别是废弃的硬件、不活动的航天器和坠毁的航天器。
