Set Date Offset by Posting Periods

Time flies when we have fun and (feels like) it stops when we are in pain. It is passing non-stop, and we follow it with clocks and calendars. And when it comes to business – timing and time are everything. From reporting taxes and revenue recognition, through contracts and warranty, to inhouse data analysis. Every business has its own definition of time using the relevant posting periods – depends on the industry, local best practices and other considerations, a posting period may represent week, month, quarter, or year. Companies use the posting periods for reporting, planning, and business activity analysis proposes. To enable better accuracy and efficiency of the latter, the Web Client of SAP Business One introduces a date offset range definition based on the defined posting periods:

The options “Last X posting periods” and “Next X posting periods” are added to the date picker of date-related fields, such as Posting Date, Delivery Date, etc. in the filter bar of list views. When selected, you cam enter the number of last or next posting periods to be considered.

In the example above, the filter is set to the last 15 posting periods, and it appears as follows on the filter bar

In this example the year is divided into 12 posting periods and so last 15 posting periods represent the last 15 months. Every time we run the report, it will consider the last 15 posting periods based on today’s date. Like with every date filtering, you may set multiple ranges here as well.

Available in the Web Client for SAP Business One 10.0 FP 2111 and SAP Business One 10.0, version for SAP HANA FP 2111. This tip and all the other tips are available on the Tip of the week community page. You can also visit the Implementation Arena for useful implementation tips.
