iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On display will turn off in these scenarios

Getting the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max for its Always-On display? True to its name, the display on the new iPhones remains in an always-on state, except in a few situations.
In a support document, Apple has detailed the scenarios when the iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On display will go dark to save battery.
iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On display turns off when you don’t need it
Always-On display is a useful feature as you can glance at your iPhone’s display to check for unread notifications, time, and other details. But it does not always need to be on, especially if you are not around. In some cases, it can be distracting as well, like when you are sleeping.
Out of the box, Always-On display is enabled on the iPhone 14 Pro series.
Spotted by MacRumors, Apple’s support document details when the iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On display turns off to save battery life:
- Your iPhone is lying face down
- Your iPhone is in your pocket or bag
- Sleep Focus is on
- Low Power Mode is on
- Your iPhone is connected to CarPlay
- You’re using Continuity Camera
- You haven’t used your iPhone for a while (your iPhone learns your activity patterns and turns the display off and on accordingly, including if you set up an alarm or sleep schedule)
- Your iPhone detects that you moved away from it with a paired Apple Watch (Always-On display will turn on when your Apple Watch is close to your iPhone again)
Turn off Always-On display to save battery power
The Super Retina XDR panel on the iPhone 14 Pro lineup can go as low as 1Hz and operate in a low-power mode to save battery life when in Always-On mode. Apple has also added dedicated co-processors on the A16 Bionic chip to refresh the display while using minimal power.
Despite this, Always-On display on the new iPhones will have some negative impact on the battery life. So, if you want your iPhone to last as long as possible, turn off the feature from Settings > Display & Brightness.
