The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro lineup are yet to go on sale. But Apple already has an update ready for its latest iPhones.
Your new iPhone 14 will receive a day-one update to iOS 16.0.1 as soon as you set it up.
iOS 16.0.1 is only for iPhone 14 series
Apple is shipping the new iPhones with an iOS 16 build older than the official public release. Before, you would have received an update to iOS 16’s stable public release. But now that Apple has seeded iOS 16.0.1 for these devices, your new iPhone will jump straight to it.
If upgrading from an older iPhone already running iOS 16, it’s important to update your iPhone 14 to the latest build available. Without updating, you cannot restore the backup from the old iPhone. That’s because iOS backups can’t be installed onto an iPhone if they are made on device running a newer OS build.
iOS 16.0.1 contains the following changes, according to 9to5Mac:
- Fixes an issue with activation and migration during set up of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro
- Photos may appear soft when zooming in landscape orientation on iPhone 14 Pro Max
- Enterprise single sign-on apps may fail to authenticate
This point release of iOS 16 contains bug fixes related to the iPhone 14 lineup so it won’t be making its way to older iPhones.
If you connect your new handset to the internet during the setup process, it will automatically prompt you to install the update first before proceeding further.
Developers can also try out iOS 16.1 beta 1
Apple has already seeded iOS 16.1 beta 1 to developers with several changes and improvements. This includes a Clean Energy Charging option, Live Activities API and Matter support.
If interested, you can join Apple’s developer beta program and install the beta release on your new iPhone when it arrives.
