New Apache NetBeans 15 Update Arrives

NetBeans 15, the newest release, is here. See what’s new in the latest version and find out how you can upgrade to the latest update.

Apache NetBeans is a cross-platform, open source integrated development environment (IDE). Although it is mainly associated with Java, it also offers extensions for other languages, including PHP, JavaScript, C, and C++. NetBeans uses modules to allow developers to create applications from modular components.

The newest version, Apache NetBeans 15, was released with the help of 33 contributors. Geertjan Wielenga, Apache NetBeans PMC Chair and Java Champion, announced the new release on September 7, 2022 and thanked the contributors.

Changelog highlights

Some highlights from the changelog include:

  • Support added for JEP 413: External Snippets and Snippet Attributes
  • Added LSP: Javadoc code completion
  • Improved YAML editing
  • Performance improvements including
  • Various upgrades including updates for the LSP4J library,
  • UI improvements made to the JDK download and registration, the OCI UI and VSCode icon mapping, and Regex checker.
  • Various bug fixes: issues with history view resolved, fixed missing module names, fixes to the nb project wizard, and Maven / dependency query issues were resolved.
  • Removed support for Windows 95 & 98

Upgrade to the newest version

If you’re ready to upgrade, follow the instructions here to install the new version and get Apache NetBeans 15 running on your machine. Community installers are available, as well as the ability to build from source. NetBeans is supported by any OS that can also run Java.

For future reference, keep track of the release schedule. According to the schedule, NetBeans 16 is due for release between November 15th - 30th, 2022.
