The Highest Fines Given To Companies For Breaching Data Protection Law, Visualized
Big companies have paid out millions of dollars over the years for violating the data privacy of their users.

This week, Ireland fined Instagram over $400 million dollars for failing to protect the data privacy of children using the app. While that's a hell of a lot of money, it's still not the heftiest fine a company has been issued for violating the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) law.

Using data from the GDPR Enforcement Tracker, Statista visualized the highest fines handed out to companies for breaching the GDPR.

Topping the list is the European branch of Amazon, which received a fine of around $740 million in 2021 for failing to comply with "general data processing principles."

The company that has received the most fines of the six listed is Google, having been fined on three separate occasions for violating the GDPR.
