How to make a folder on iPhone: deleting, removing and renaming folders

Liam Gravvat, USA TODAY
Fri, September 2, 2022, 6:00 PM·3 min read

As useful as owning a mobile phone is, it's easy to get disorganized and lose track of your apps, especially when you use your phone for work, school and leisure. Keeping your apps ordered by personal preference or categories like music and fitness can keep your iPhone background clean while removing any difficulties in finding what you need.

The solution to these challenges is to create a folder to house and organize your apps. How do you make a folder on an iPhone and are you able to edit, rename or remove it?

Who owns the most shares of Apple? A look at the company's biggest shareholders.

Just Curious?: We're here to help with life's everyday questions.

How to make a folder on iPhone

Creating a folder on your iPhone is great for users looking to organize their apps or make their favorites more easily accessible. Apple advises users to follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold your iPhone’s “Home Screen background” until the background apps start to jiggle.

  2. Drag one of your apps onto another app to create a folder with the two apps. Apple notes that users can have multiple pages of apps within a single folder.

  3. Drag any other desired apps into the folder.

  4. Select “Done” when you’re happy with your folder, then tap your background twice to finish.

Explainer-Biden's curbs on chips to China part of broader effort

Chip designer Nvidia Corp this week said the United States told it to restrict exports to China of two computing chips for artificial intelligence work, the latest move in a broader government effort to hamper China's access to the most sophisticated semiconductors. News of the letter to Nvidia, and a similar one to rival AMD, follows an August announcement from the Commerce Department curbing exports of materials and software used to make next generation chips, as well as recent reporting from Reuters on other actions under consideration that would make it much harder for the Chinese semiconductor sector to compete on a global scale. The U.S. notice to chipmakers could cripple Chinese firms' ability to carry out advanced work like image recognition and hamper Nvidia's business in the country.

Meta, Qualcomm sign pact on custom virtual reality chips

(Reuters) -Meta Platforms Inc signed an agreement to have chip-maker Qualcomm Inc produce custom chipsets for its Quest virtual reality (VR) devices, the companies announced at a consumer electronics conference in Berlin on Friday. Engineering and product teams of both companies will work together to produce the chips, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon platforms, they said in a statement. The agreement shows the dependency of Meta, known as Facebook until last year, on Qualcomm's technology even as it tries to develop custom silicon of its own for its virtual, augmented and mixed reality devices.

With new China AI chip restrictions, U.S. takes aim at a critical niche

The United States beefed up its effort to cut off the flow of advanced technology to China by instructing Nvidia Corp and Advanced Micro Devices to stop sending their flagship artificial intelligence chips there. While the news shocked the chip sector by the time markets closed Thursday, sending the Philadelphia semiconductor index down 1.9% and Nvidia and AMD down 7.6% and 3% respectively, the letters from the U.S. officials appeared to target a narrow but critical part of China's computing industry. The regulations appear to focus on chips called GPUs with the most powerful computing capabilities, a critical but niche market with only two meaningful players, Nvidia and AMD.

Advanced Micro Devices also said it had received new license requirements that will stop its advanced AI chip called MI250 from being exported to China.

When Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) launched its Ryzen 5000 desktop CPUs in late 2020, there were good reasons why the company had nothing to offer below $299. There are still pockets of shortages across the semiconductor industry, but the great semiconductor shortage is quickly coming to an end.

Microsoft's $69 billion Activision deal could harm competition, UK says

Britain's antitrust regulator said Microsoft Corp's $69 billion acquisition of "Call of Duty" maker Activision Blizzard could harm competition in gaming consoles, subscription services and cloud gaming, and it needs to be investigated in depth. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Thursday the deal, the largest ever in gaming, could damage the industry if Microsoft refused to give competitors access to Activision's best-selling games. "We are concerned that Microsoft could use its control over popular games like 'Call of Duty' and 'World of Warcraft' post-merger to harm rivals, including recent and future rivals in multi-game subscription services and cloud gaming," the CMA said.
