Organize Your Custom Dashboards More Easily in AppSignal

We're happy to announce that we've added a feature that will enable you to create folders for your custom metric dashboards.

Using AppSignal at AppSignal

At AppSignal, we use our product extensively. As our application grows, we track a lot of metrics to keep an eye on performance and errors. This leads us to have more and more dashboards created through our "Custom Metrics" feature.

At one point, we had so many dashboards tracking everything from API endpoint performance to business metrics that the other menu items of AppSignal were pushed off-screen. This also paired with semi-inconsistent naming, and lead to difficultise in finding the right dashboard when an issue occurred.

To help solve this issue, we added a minor feature that allows you to create folders for custom metric dashboards.

How to Create Your Custom Folder for Custom Metric Dashboards

To use it, add a slash (/) to the name, and we create a folder from it, one level deep.

A dashboard named ES/Cluster Health would yield the following folder.

Adding items can be done by ensuring the same folder name is used, for example: ES/Flusher.

Suggesting New Features

If you would like to see something not already available on AppSignal, don't hesitate to reach out, we'd love to hear from you! We provide developer-to-developer support and ship stroopwafels to trial users on request 😋 🍪
