Rumor | Sony Xperia 1 V to feature an ultra-micro-hole front camera that allows an almost bezel-less design without a punch hole or notch
This is how the micro-hole front camera of the Sony Xperia 1 V could possibly look like (Image: Sumahodigest)In the age of almost bezel-less displays, the essential front-facing camera module has become a major obstacle for smartphone manufacturers in their quest to design an all-display mobile device. While Sony simply opted to give its flagship smartphones like the current Xperia 1 IV a slightly larger top bezel, other solutions include the rather exotic motorized pop-up camera of the OnePlus 7 Pro, rather annoying punch holes and notches as well as lackluster under-display cameras.
Fortunately, a new technology called "ultra-micro-hole" or "micro-matrix multi camera" may be the most elegant solution to hide a front-facing camera in an extremely thin bezel. According to a Weibo post by a Chinese leaker, the mass production of this intriguing front-facing camera setup has now kicked off, which means that the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 V may be one of the first devices that could benefit from the new technology. As seen in the teaser image above, the top bezel of the Sony Xperia 1 V could have three tiny holes in which three camera lenses are placed.
Aside from the Sony Xperia 1 V, the Google Pixel Fold is another device that could possible feature a micro-hole front-facing camera setup. However, this rumor is still highly speculative as there are no concept renderings or other evidence that supports these claims. Therefore, prospective buyers of the Sony Xperia 1 V should not hold their breath in anticipation of a practically bezel-less Sony smartphone, especially since the Japanese tech behemoth often takes a rather conservative approach with the design of its flagship smartphones.
