Some new old problems |
Back to General discussions forum
Briefly: there was a kind of spin-off project, OpenAbbey
which is not going to be continued in the form
it had. But there were few problems with "generator-checker" in Python. Since recently we got functionality
to run python checkers on CodeAbbey
also, I feel it would be good to migrate those tasks here.
Factorial Trailing Zeroes - first of them.
I suspect some of you had solutions saved in OpenAbbey - please contact me if you don't have local copy and want them to be retrieved.
In Detail
I sometimes have "too bright" ideas of new projects, and most often they die out in some early phase :) Perhaps this happens to most of us.
Few years ago one of such ideas - "OpenAbbey" was started, with a goal to have "something alike" but opensource etc. But it seems like it never "got tracktion" - I believe because it was not easy enough to handle for newcomer - and not providing much motivation for experienced people. Also probably some integration between two sites would improve situation, but seemingly there was no many bright
It served also to post problems which I deemed unsuitable for this site due to old certification strategy - but now there is no such obstacle, thanks to Clive's idea on "new strategy".
As OpenAbbey was deployed on VPS (which also run sandboxes etc) in DigitalOcean, I stuck into silly situation not being able to transfer further payments for it. No big deal - I spent a week-end to move stuff onto different VPS provider, which works with bank transfers - but while I re-deployed sandboxes there, I decided not to do this with OpenAbbey server.
It doesn't mean idea is completely dead, but probably it waits for some new form to be incarnated in, hopefully more lively :)
