Galaxy Unpacked: Galaxy Z Fold4, Z Flip4 and everything to expect

Galaxy Unpacked

Samsung’s second biggest event of the year is set to happen tomorrow, August 10. The new edition of the company’s Galaxy Unpacked will bring a bunch of novelties. For instance, the company will introduce the new Galaxy Z Fold4 and the Galaxy Z Flip4. These devices will continue the company’s growing legacy in the foldable market. However, are they capable of sustaining the company’s dominance in the segment of foldable? We’ll know everything about them, but thanks to a myriad of leaks, we can already build a good image of what Samsung has in tow. In addition to these foldable, the company will also disclose a new generation of the Galaxy Watch series and will introduce a new pair of True Wireless Earbuds. The company has been keeping a low profile in terms of teasers, but thanks to the rumor mill we already know a lot of details.

Through this article, we’ll combine everything we already know about the content to come in the next Galaxy Unpacked event. So without further ado, let’s see what the company has in tow for all tech enthusiasts across the world.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 – The Star of Galaxy Unpacked event

As per the leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 design will not bring significant changes. Instead of a major overhaul, Samsung is doing small refinements here and there. For instance, the aspect ratio will change to make both displays shorter and wider. So, instead of a 24:5:9 aspect for the cover display and 6:2:5 for the main panel, we’ll have 23:9 for the outer panel and 6:5 for the inner screen. This may improve the usability of the outer panel. After all, there were some complaints about the display’s tall aspect. Worth noting, that the bezels are also smaller on the newer model.

Galaxy

The reports say that Samsung redesigned the hinge on the device. The goal is to make the creaser smaller. Unfortunately, we don’t know if the new panel will close flat. Anyway, it seems that the panel is also getting some improvements in the camera’s area. Apparently, Samsung is making the under-display camera less visible with a higher pixel density in the display area. The new panels will use new materials such as Super UTG inside and Gorilla Glass Victus+ outside. As per a leaked listing, the phone will have a 120 Hz refresh rate for both displays.

Galaxy Unpacked

As per a leak from a Bosnian Carrier, the phone will also bring improvements in the camera department. For instance, there will be a 50 MP main camera. Moreover, the phone has a 12 MP telephoto with 3 x optical zoom, and a 12 MP ultrawide shooter. For comparison, the Z Fold 4 had a 12 MP main, 12 MP 2 x telephoto, and 12 MP ultrawide shooter. Therefore, we can see that Samsung is improving the main camera and the zoom capabilities.

Hardware specs

Under the hood, the phone will bring Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. It will be paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB or 512 GB of Storage. Rumors also suggest a 128 GB variant. However, the availability will depend. One thing is clear, at least for now, Samsung is not bringing a 1 TB variant. The phone will likely retain the same battery capacity of 4,400 mAh found with the Z Fold 3. Similarly, we expect the 25 W charging system to be present. After all, Samsung is definitively not entering the race for fast charging. Apparently, the Korean firm can’t overcome the Galaxy Note 7 and its dreadful battery curse. So it’s playing safe. The company will still play with the charging curve through some tweaks. The leaks say that 30 minutes of charging is enough to bring the battery to 50%.

Galaxy Unpacked

The phone will carry a price tag of around €1,846 for the variant with 256 GB of Storage and €2,000 for the one with 512 GB of Storage. The device will sell in Beige, Black, Gray Green, and Burgundy Red. The device will certainly be a major highlight of the Galaxy Unpacked.

Galaxy Z Flip 4

The next device to steal the spotlight at the Galaxy Unpacked is the Galaxy Z FLip 4. The device continues the company’s lineup of clamshell-foldable smartphones. The device will bring minor improvements in terms of design. For instance, it will keep the 6.7-inch internal foldable screen with 2,640 x 1,080 pixels of resolution. Apparently, the outer panel will also stick with the 1.9-inch screen size. Although some leaks have been suggesting a bigger 2.1-inch. Those who want a larger outer panel will see a good alternative on the upcoming Moto RAZR 2022 with its 3-inch outer screen.

According to the same Bosnian Carrier from above, the phone has two cameras. Unlike its Galaxy Z Fold4 sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip4 will retain the dual 12 MP camera sensor. It’s a 12 MP wide and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor. The selfie camera is also staying at a 10 MP of resolution. As per the leaks, the phone is also expected to bring a new hinge and screen materials. However, we’re not seeing massive improvements in the crease. After all, there is still a gap between the two display’s halves.

Galaxy Unpacked

New dimensions, more capable battery, and the same weight

The measurements of the phone also show a larger model with 167.9 x 73.6 x 7.2mm dimensions. To compare, the dimensions of the Galaxy Z Flip3 were 166 x 72.2 x 6.9 mm. The weight of the phone is apparently the same at 183 grams. Interestingly, we’re seeing a major improvement in the battery capacity of this phone.

Galaxy Z Flip4

Samsung is slowly managing to improve the size of the battery in this challenging build. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Z Flip3 had a 3,300 mAh battery capacity. Now, Samsung is bringing a 3,700 mAh unit with the newer model. The phone will also see an improvement in charging with 25 W charging. That’s not on par with current charging standards, but it’s a major improvement over the tepid 15W charging. The wireless charging will likely remain at 10W.

Galaxy Unpacked

Under the hood, the Z Flip4 brings the same Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. The phone will have 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of Interna Storage. The device will cost more at €1,080 for the base model with 128 GB. There will be a 512 GB variant at a max price tag of €1,280.

Wearables also get the spotlight of the Galaxy Unpacked event!

Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro

The Korean firm will also present a new pair of true wireless devices during the Galaxy Unpacked event. The new devices will be dubbed Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro and will have 10 mm drivers and 5.3 mm tweeters. The Audio will be carried over Bluetooth 5.3, and 360 audio will also be supported as before. The multiple microphones on the buds will enable “Intelligent Active Noise Cancellation”, squashing 33 dB worth of noise. The microphones will provide high-quality HD Voice pickup.

Buds2 Pro

The Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro will pack IPX water resistance. The battery life is about the same with 8 hours of playtime with ANF off and 29 hours total with the charging case. Putting the Buds back in their case for 5 minutes will give you 55 minutes of listening time.

The Galaxy Buds2 Pro announcement happens at the Galaxy Unpacked event. However, the hearables will hit the market on August 26 at 230 Euros in Europe and $230 in the US. The hearables will come in Zenith Grey, Zenith White, and Bora Purple colorways.

Galaxy Watch5 series

Samsung will introduce three Galaxy Watch5 models this year. However, the rotating bezel seems to be gone. The two vanilla models will come in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes, and there will be a Galaxy Watch5 Pro at 45 mm. As per the leaked details, there isn’t a Galaxy Watch5 Classic model coming.

Galaxy Watch5

The wearables will leave the Corning Gorilla Glass for a new Sapphire Crystal. They will carry 5 ATM water resistance and will bring native GPS. The battery department also gets some improvements. For instance, the Galaxy Watch5 will have 276 mAh on the 40 mm model and a 397 mAh battery for the model with 44 mm size. The Watch5 Pro, on the other hand, has a massive (for a smartwatch) 572 mAh battery. These wearables will charge through 10 W wireless charging, which is very fast considering the battery capacity.

The new wearables will run Wear OS 3.5 and One UI Watch 4.5. The software brings a new QUERTY keyboard with support for Bluetooth calling with dual-SIM phones, new accessibility options, and more. The Galaxy Watch5 40 mm with Bluetooth-only will retail for 300 Euros, and the one with LTE will cost 350 Euros.

The 44 mm size will cost 350 and 400 Euros respectively. The Galaxy Watch5 Pro will likely cost 490 Euros without LTE, and 540 Euros with it.

More coming at Galaxy Unpacked

In addition to the new devices, the company will also have some small “arrivals” happening at the same time as the Galaxy Unpacked. For instance, the Galaxy S22 in Bora Purple colorway will hit the shelves tomorrow. The new colorway matches the new Galaxy Buds2 Pro Bora Purple and will set you back by 850 Euros or 800 US Dollars.

The Galaxy Unpacked may also serve as a stage for the reveal of new One UI 5 features. The company is rolling out the beta for Galaxy S22 series in the US, Germany, and South Korea. However, tomorrow’s event plays a good opportunity for the company to disclose more details. In addition to that, the company may bring more details about its rollout roadmap. Of course, this is mere speculation right now. The software uses Android 13 as a base, and for now, there is no official info from Google about the final Android 13 rollout.

Last but not least, Samsung and the K-Pop group BTS will disclose the video for Yet To Come tomorrow during the event. Therefore, the Galaxy Unpacked will certainly be an unmissable event for the fans of the popular band.

Conclusion

Worth noting that all products in this list are based on the rumor mill and the leaked data. There is some room for certain surprises, so it’s best to keep an eye on the event. We will cover all the details.
