Create a bootable USB stick on Ubuntu

To install operating system, first you need to write operating system image file on either disk or USB drive using disk writer software. There are many software available to make bootable disk or USB. Ubuntu has already disk image writer software preinstalled, so you don't have to download any external software.

With bootable USB disk, you can install or upgrade oparating system, try new operating system direct from the USB stick, work from others' computer or fix a broken installation. 

In this article, we will discuss on how to create bootable USB stick on Ubuntu. Follow the below instructions and you can also create bootable USB disk.

Prerequisite
In order to create bootable USB stick, you need 4GB or larger size USB drive, Ubuntu 14.04 or later version and network connection to download operating system ISO file.

Download the ISO file

First get the operating system ISO file from the official website. For example, if you want to create USD bootable for Ubuntu 20.04, go to the Ubuntu's official website and download ISO file.

Startup Disk Creator

After download the ISO file, insert the USB drive. Now from the menu, search for Startup Disk Creator application and open it.

Select the ISO and USB drive

When application opened, in the Source disk image option, select ISO file which you have downloaded. In the Disk to use option, select the USB drive. After that click Make Startup Disk button to start the process.

Confirm

Before you create the bootable drive it will ask permission to write the drive.

Input the password and proceed for writing drive.

It will start creating bootable drive.

That's it. After the bootable complete. A popup window of completion will arrive.

Now you can insert a USB drive to any computer and install or run the new operating system.
