5 Essential Topics for a Welcome Back to School Flyer to Parents

☕️ Busy? Here's the TL;DR

  1. The more info you share with families, the better off you'll be!
  2. Kick off your comms with a Welcome Back to School Flyer for parents.
  3. Include essentials like: schedule info, a lunch menu, intros to new faculty.
  4. Remember to add reminders for upcoming events & a link to a calendar.
  5. Last but not least, always include a resource for the hard job of parenting.

The more info you share with families ahead of time, the more ahead of the curve you’ll all be.

A Welcome Back to School flyer doesn’t need to be complicated, it just needs to be informative.

Here are 5 suggestions for what to include:

1. An introduction to new faculty & staff in the building.

Introductions always put folks more at ease. Include a picture, a title, and tidbit about each person.

That’s all it takes!

Newsletter introductions to new staff members

2. Schedule Info for Day or Week 1.

Think of this as another form of introduction — folks always feel more at ease when they know what’s coming. You can embed a screen grab, link to a published schedule, or create a schedule design of your own in Canva.

While we’re on the subject of schedules, a lunch menu for the week is a surefire way to get parents to read your flyer!

3. Upcoming Events

Millennial parents live scheduled lives, so make sure you’re sharing schedule reminders with every flyer! You can use a save-the-date widget, or link to a district calendar, or write out the events & dates in text form.

If you write out the reminders, remember to use bullet points for easier reading.

4. Important Reminders

Embed forms that need to be completed before Day 1, links to school supply lists, an update from the school board or PTO, or any of the endless things that parents need to keep track of during the back-to-school season.

They will appreciate anything you can do to help them stay organized and on top of everything.

5. Parent Resources

It’s hard being a parent! Including a helpful resource will always let families know that you care, and that you’re a source of support.
