Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will debut the 200MP HP2 sensor

South Korean manufacturing giant, Samsung, is one of the major players in the global smartphone market. The company is also one of the top brands in the production of mobile phone cameras. However, in many cases, Samsung is not the first to use its own sensor. Nevertheless, according to @iceuniverse, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will use a 200-megapixel main camera. The interesting part of this camera is that it is an upcoming 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2 sensor. From all indications, Samsung will be the first to use this sensor.

At present, Samsung has two 200-megapixel sensors, namely Samsung ISOCELL HP1 and ISOCELL HP3. The former has been confirmed to be launched by Motorola’s new Moto X30 Pro/Edge 30 Ultra. According toIceUniverse, HP2 will perform better than HP1 and HP3 in overall performance. Possibly, this is why Samsung will officially launch this sensor itself. The size of the HP2 is currently unknown. If it performs better, it may be larger than the HP1 (1/1.22 inch sensor) or have better process technology.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – a premium flagship

The current highest-pixel lens on Samsung phones is the 108-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The company also uses this sensor on older smartphones like the previous Galaxy S20 series and S21 series. You can see that Samsung has been with the 108MP sensor for three-generation flagships. Thus, it is necessary for the company to upgrade the sensor in the upcoming Galaxy S series flagship.

If the Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with a 200-megapixel main camera, it will be the first change to Samsung’s camera specifications in four years. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (SM8550). This flagship processor will officially debut in November this year. The expectations are that the performance upgrade of this chip will be big and the power consumption will be better.
