The internet is dominated by a handful of companies like meta, amazon, and google. The chances are a lot of the online platforms you use daily are pretty possibly dominated by one of these companies. The internet has become centralized over the past few decades, which is unsuitable for us. If I want to make you understand the evolution of the internet, it is divided into three phases:
- Web 1.0 — Read Only.
It was a collection of static web pages you could read, but it was not easy to express yourself on the internet.
- Web 2.0 — Read and Write
Web 2.0 evolution started in the early 2000s. Now, you can read and write on the internet, post to your blog, leave comments, or, more recently, have an Instagram page or Twitter feed. It is concentrated around tech giants; these platforms owned your blog posts, videos, personal data, and indirectly you by monetizing through advertisements and other means.
- Web 3.0 — Read/Write/Own
Web3.0 promises to give the ownership of your data back to you.
In this article, I’ve mentioned top-rated resources from which you can learn and understand web3 and blockchain technology and contribute to this ecosystem. So that internet can get out of the hands of the few companies that control it, spread that power to users, and reshape the internet.
